My Journey From Teacher to Writer
From a young age, I always dreamed of writing a book. As a child, I would write poems, or greeting cards and make up stories. I loved to read and paper and pen were my constant companion.
I always loved school and excelled here. My love of learning led me to become a teacher as I also had a calling to serve others. Teaching has allowed me to both inspire my students and serve the greater good. However, I always knew that I wanted to be a published author but put off writing throughout my early adult life.
I found every excuse in the book: “What would I write about?” was the most constant one along with, “When will I find the time?” for years, especially when I became a mom.
I struggled with what to write I think the most. As a history educator with two degrees in history, I believed I needed to write something historical. I kept pushing this off year after year. I started many drafts in a variety of genres. Until Daisy…
Daisy came into our lives a couple of months after my dad passed away. My father was my biggest advocate, my loudest cheerleader along with my mother. But it was my father who always encouraged me to write. Daisy was my muse and what better audience to write for than children?
So here we are. Once I wrote about a subject I loved, the words just flowed off the page.
As a lifetime educator, I seek to inspire my students to be both engaged world citizens and to be lifelong learners. Using my writing as a vehicle, I can now use these books to hopefully inspire a larger classroom and share my love of animals, my love of family, instill the valuable lessons I hold dear, and bring attention to issues I care about.
Thank you for taking this adventure with me!!
